The Circuit Gilles - Villeneuve is a temporary circuit that hosts motor racing at Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal, Quebec. The circuit made its opening in 1978 with a sitting capacity of 100,000 fans. The circuit has initially been known as Île Notre-Dame Circuit when it first opened. But in 1982, it was renamed to Circuit Gilles - Villeneuve in honor of Giles Villeneuve, a Canadian Formula One driver who died in an accident at the venue. Since its inception, the circuit has been a regular host to the annual FIA Formula One Canadian Grand Prix.
